About Garrett

A winding road, and every step of it counts

I'm Garrett, the guide behind Mesomundo. I help people bring their behavior into line with their spiritual ideals, because I spent a long time living in the gap between the two myself.

My story

From priest-to-be to psychonaut, and back to the heart

When I was a boy I told my parents I wanted to be a priest. Being drawn to spiritual ideas was a constant in my experience of being in this body.

From 16 to 32 I lived an ostensibly aimless and richly varied life. I was a bartender, a bricklayer, a private investigator, a salesman, a music producer, and a guitarist. I was a regular meditator and a psychonaut, and I overcame addiction.

I also went through a very traumatic and difficult early marriage. It resulted in a child, made me a father, and ended in divorce.

That whole chapter was capped by a UFO experience in 2013, when I was 33. It was a marker in time, a shift into a new timeline that has been coalescing around me ever since.

Since then my spiritual life has taken precedence. I've taken everything I gathered over those years, the good and the hard, and transformed it into a behavioral framework that supercharges spiritual growth.

My lineage and teacher was James Mahu, a philosopher and multi-disciplinary artist whose work shaped how I understand the heart's virtues.

In 2013 I was homeless. Today I live with financial abundance and a life filled with meaning and love. Every morning I wake up as excited as a child on Christmas, with all the excitement of a summer vacation.

Today I'm married to my wife, Josephine Hardman, and our marriage is a spiritual partnership.

This is my resume: bartender, bricklayer, private investigator, salesman, music producer, guitarist, father, son, brother, husband, friend.

The journey, age 5 to today

All ages of myself, at all times

I am consciously aware as all ages of myself at all times. It isn't a set of snapshots; it's a smearing of being-ness over time, all of it living inside this one identity. For years that meant a huge internal battle. Getting all of me to work together in concert has been the real work.

The boy who wanted to be a priest

When I was a boy I told my parents I wanted to be a priest. Spiritual ideas were a constant for me from the very beginning. My 5-year-old self is still here, and he's still full of wonder.

    The moody twelve-year-old

He has his own moods and his own wants, and he gets a say too. Part of growing up spiritually, for me, has been learning to listen to him instead of shutting him out.

    Age 18

    Restless, hungry, everywhere at once

My 18-year-old wants different things than my 5-year-old. From 16 to 32 I lived a richly varied, seemingly aimless life: bartender, bricklayer, private investigator, salesman, music producer, guitarist.

    2013: the turning point

At 33 I had a UFO experience. It marked a shift into a new timeline that has been coalescing around me ever since. That same year I was homeless. It was the bottom and the beginning.

    Today

    All of me, in concert

Today my spiritual life comes first, and my life is filled with meaning, love, and financial abundance, shared with my wife, Josephine, in a marriage that is a spiritual partnership. Every part of me has its allotted time in the day, which keeps all of me happy and the wheels greased.

Metamorphosis

Back in the cocoon, one more time

Long before 2013 I was writing songs about transformation. One of them, “Camera Shy Butterfly,” has a line I still come back to: “Larvae hibernate, higher states are achievable, higher than prior thought conceivable.”

Growth doesn't happen once. We go back into the cocoon again and again, and each time we come out a little more ourselves.

“Back in the cocoon, metamorphosize one more time.”
What I do now

I help you close the gap

I help people align their behaviors with their spiritual ideals: closing the gap between belief and practice. I work best with people who are halfway awake, or right on the cusp of awakening.
